Satya Nadella, the chief executive officer of Microsoft, has exited from Starbucks' board of directors after seven years of service. The coffee-shop giant announced the news in a May.30 regulatory filing.
In a resignation letter addressed to Mellody Hobson, the board’s chair, and Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, the vice chair, Nadella expressed his mixed emotions about stepping down. He emphasized his pride in the company's evolution during his tenure and conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to its growth and success.
"It has been a profound privilege and an honor to serve this extraordinary company alongside such dedicated colleagues on the board for the past seven years," Nadella wrote. He highlighted the remarkable changes and continued thriving of Starbucks that he had witnessed during his service.
Nadella, who was appointed to the Starbucks board in 2017, reaffirmed his unwavering belief in the company's mission and his ongoing support for its partners. He expressed his confidence in the leadership of chief executive officer Laxman Narasimhan and the senior leadership team, describing their strategic acumen as a promising sign for Starbucks' future.
"While I may be retiring from my role on the board, my belief in Starbucks’ mission and my support for our partners remain steadfast. I will continue to be one of the company’s biggest fans, cheering on from the sidelines as you propel Starbucks to even greater heights," Nadella added.
Nadella's departure marks the end of a notable chapter in the company's leadership. Despite his resignation, Nadella assured that he would continue to support Starbucks and eagerly watch its future successes. The company did not specify if it plans to fill Nadella's vacant board seat.
