A second flight carrying Indian immigrants deported from the United States is expected to land in Amritsar on Feb. 15, several media reports quoting sources said. Another flight carrying deported Indians is likely to follow.

The second batch is expected to include 170-180 immigrants, though confirmation from Indian officials is still pending. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that U.S. authorities had notified India about 487 individuals with removal orders.

This comes after a U.S. military aircraft carrying 104 deported migrants arrived in Amritsar on Feb. 5, marking one of the largest deportation operations under President Donald Trump's administration.

Of the deportees, 30 were from Punjab, 33 each from Haryana and Gujarat, three from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, and two from Chandigarh. A U.S. military C-17 aircraft was previously used to transport deported immigrants. After verification and background checks, the deportees were all returned home.

On the first flight, deportees reported inhumane treatment during transit, alleging they were shackled throughout the flight. Misri called the mistreatment a “valid concern” and said India would address the issue with U.S. officials.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar told the Rajya Sabha that deportations of Indian immigrants from the U.S. have been ongoing for years, with 15,668 individuals deported since 2009. He assured that the government is committed to ensuring fair treatment.
