Serco appoints Balan Ayyar to board of directors

Virginia-based Serco Inc has announced the addition of retired Brigadier General Balan Ayyar, founder and chief executive officer of percipient.ai, to its board of directors. 

Ayyar has a distinguished background encompassing military service and executive leadership in the technology sector. He heads the Silicon Valley-based firm specializing in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision.

As CEO he has shown a strong commitment to advancing cutting-edge technologies in support of national security interests. Prior to founding percipient.ai, Ayyar served as the CEO of a government services IT firm. He guided the company through strategic initiatives, promoting growth and operational excellence.

A retired United States Air Force General Officer, Ayyar his final military position as the Commanding General of the Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435 in Kabul, Afghanistan. He also served as the Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense. 

With an extensive military career encompassing service in four combatant commands, he holds the distinction of being the first Indian American General Officer in the US Armed Forces.

As a director at Serco, Ayyar will play a crucial role in influencing the company's strategic direction. Leveraging his extensive experience in artificial intelligence, national security, and corporate leadership, he will contribute significantly to shaping Serco's path forward, a company release stated.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from the U.S. Air Force Academy and multiple degrees, including a master’s in public administration from Auburn University. Notably, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has previously served as a White House Fellow.
