Seven Indian-origin men were among 21 individuals arrested by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office following a two-day sting operation aimed at curbing prostitution.

The "Prostitution Demand Suppression Operation," conducted on Aug.14 and 15, targeted individuals attempting to purchase sexual services in the community.

The arrested men include Nikhil Bandi, Nikhil Kummari, Galla Monish, Karthik Rayapati, Nabin Shrestha, Amit Kumar, and Jaikiran Reddy Mekala. Bandi and Kummari, both Denton residents, faced additional charges of evading arrest and detention. Mekala was charged with solicitation of prostitution involving a minor, a second-degree felony under Texas law, as well as evading arrest.

According to authorities, the operation resulted in 14 arrests on charges of solicitation of prostitution, classified as a state jail felony. Two individuals were charged with the more severe offense of solicitation of prostitution involving a minor, a second-degree felony that carries significant penalties.

Additionally, two individuals were arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon, and three others were apprehended for evading arrest and detention.

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Highland Village Police Department during the operation. "This coordinated effort underscores our commitment to eradicating prostitution and protecting vulnerable individuals in our community," said a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s office.

The operation has also led to the development of new leads, with the Sheriff’s Office's Human Trafficking Unit actively pursuing further investigations. "We are determined to follow every lead to its conclusion," the spokesperson added. "Our work doesn’t end with these arrests; it’s an ongoing effort to ensure the safety and security of Denton County residents."
