The Boston chapter of Sewa International, a humanitarian non-profit, raised $25,000 at its annual Gala on December 7, marking the organization’s 20th anniversary since its incorporation in the United States.
Themed "Sound of Giving," the gala was attended by over 250 community members, who helped raise funds to support Sewa International’s projects, ranging from disaster relief and women’s empowerment to grassroots initiatives in Boston, including partnerships with Shrewsbury High School student led Aidworks Foundation as well as New England Leherein.
The organization also honored inspiring leaders and organizations during the event with awards. The Sewa Women Empowerment Award was given to Manju Sheth and her Women Who Win organization. India Society of Worcester’s Humrahee group led by Sharat Amin, Narayan Sharma and Kirti Nagpal were recognized for the Sewa Heart of the Community award. Lastly, the Sewa Rising Star Award was presented to Neeharika Munjal for her leadership in creating opportunities for young professionals with Young Indian Professionals of New England.
The event included a cultural program highlighting the richness of Indian art and music. Vocalists Sankar Gangaikondan, Sharanya Sarkar Verma, Meena Sundaram, and Raghu Saranathan presented live renditions of timeless Bollywood classics. The Lasya School of Dance, led by Sapna Krishnan delivered a dance performance in addition to a Kathak presentation by Moumita Banerjee from Tarana School of Kathak.
“This gala was a testament to Sewa’s mission of selfless service and our 20-year journey of empowering communities globally,” said Kumar Subramanian, Boston chapter coordinator. “We are deeply grateful to our performers, donors, and volunteers for making this milestone celebration a resounding success.”
