Shabana Parvez honored with Paul Harris Fellow Award

She becomes first Indian-origin president of Rotary Club Arlington Highlands to receive the honor

The Rotary Club of Arlington Highlands, honored Indian-American physician and entrepreneur Shabana Parvez with the Paul Harris Fellow Award—Rotary International’s highest recognition for humanitarian service. 

Parvez, the first Indian-origin president of the club, received the honor alongside Jim Swann and Sue Welch, both recognized as Rotarians of the Year, during an event celebrating the club’s 9-year anniversary, held on April 13.

The Paul Harris Fellowships were sponsored by past president Paul Brodie and president nominee Becky Gerro, who annually sponsor two recipients each.

During the event, Indian-American entrepreneur Dr. Tausif Malik was honored with the title of Honorary Rotarian in recognition of his work in democratizing access to higher education. During the event, he also announced the official registration of the Global Headquarters of RiseBack—his EdTech platform offering affordable and inclusive education—in Arlington, Texas, marking a significant milestone for the local and global education landscape.

Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, serving as chief guest and keynote speaker, lauded the city’s diversity and growth, while spotlighting the new “Start Here, Go Anywhere” initiative—a joint venture between RiseBack and the Rotary Club—demonstrating the club’s ongoing impact in innovation and education.
