The Shivam Dhol Tasha Pathak, a Dallas-based Indian traditional drum ensemble, will participate in the Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C., marking a historic first for the Indian diaspora and Texas at the 60th U.S. Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20.
Performing during President Donald Trump’s oath-taking ceremony, this high-energy group will showcase India’s rich musical traditions to a global audience, marking the first-ever participation of an Indian drum ensemble from Texas in the event.
“This is more than a performance—it’s a moment of pride for our community and a testament to the enduring ties between the United States and India,” said a spokesperson for Shivam Dhol Tasha Pathak. Known for its powerful beats and high-energy rhythms, Dhol Tasha is traditionally associated with strength and celebration in Indian culture.
Shivam Dhol Tasha Pathak has previously performed at important events such as the Howdy Modi rally, NBA and NHL halftime shows, and the ICC T20 World Cup opening ceremony. Their unique fusion of traditional Indian rhythms with global percussion styles has won acclaim for bridging cultural divides and bringing Indian music to unexpected spaces.
The ensemble’s invitation to the inaugural parade underscores the growing recognition of Indian culture in global forums. “This event celebrates our commitment to diversity, and Shivam Dhol Tasha Pathak’s participation highlights the multicultural fabric of both Texas and the nation,” the spokesperson added.
However, the group faces logistical hurdles in preparing for the event, including securing funds for the travel and accommodation of 29 performers. It has launched a fundraising initiative to cover these expenses, appealing to supporters in the Texan and Indian communities to ensure their participation.
“This opportunity is a tremendous honor, and with the community’s support, we are ready to represent Texas, India, and the spirit of unity on this global stage,” said the group.
