As part of its Gandhi Jayanti celebrations this year, the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS) on October 7, granted scholarships to six Indian-origin students studying music, dance, and musical instruments. Dr Shilpak Ambule, High Commissioner of India, presented the honours to the kids while recounting Mahatma Gandhi's life journey.

Upon honouring the teens, SIFAS congratulated them via a Facebook post which read, “Congratulations to all the talented students who have been awarded scholarships this year! Experience this remarkable confluence of heritage and scholarly brilliance, where Gandhian ideals illuminate our path toward a brighter tomorrow!”

The emcee, Maithreyi Sridhar Dhilip, expertly wove together the threads of history while highlighting Gandhian ideals and the significance of being the change we want to see in the world. This message resonated deeply in the hearts of all in attendance.

Sai Vikneshwar's soulful vocals and the melodic know-how of the acclaimed Gurus  Manjula Surendra, Supriyo Banerjee, and Susanta Chowdhury led an amazing musical trip to start the event.

Gandhi’s immortal words, "You must be the change you want to see in the world," were brought to mind by their performance, infused with the melodies that once reverberated throughout his period.

The songs were a precursor to a breathtaking dance collaboration between Kathak Guru Jyotika Joshi and Bharatanatyam Guru P N Vikas. They urged the audience to embrace compassion and cooperation during their performance, a visual symphony that honoured Gandhi's ahimsa, satyam, and shantam teachings.
