In a strong-worded statement, the non-profit has said that no law should grant the federal government permission to violate the rights of individuals, including US citizens, based solely on where they’re from.

The Sikh Coalition, an American Sikh advocacy group, has expressed concern over the Trump Administration’s recent invocation of the Alien Enemies Act (AEA), calling the law outdated and overreaching.

In a statement released on Mar.17, the Sikh Coalition said: “The Act has previously only been invoked three times in our history—most recently to justify the unconstitutional internment of individuals of Japanese descent in the 1940s, which is one of the most egregious displays of racism in our nation’s recent history and ultimately warranted an apology from Congress and the White House to the Japanese American community."
