Sawinder Singh, a Hazuri Ragi (a singer who performs at the Golden Temple in Amritsar), was invited by Maryland Lt. Governor Aruna Miller to represent the Sikh community in the Governor’s Interfaith Council.

Faith leaders from various communities gathered at the council’s recent meeting to address shared challenges and promote unity through interfaith dialogue.

Singh, a Maryland resident for the past 25 years, is a dedicated participant in interfaith programs and community initiatives throughout the state. As a new council member, he joined the Food Security Committee and the Interfaith Council Relations Committee.

During the meeting, Singh affirmed his commitment to working with his community and the state to ensure effective resource allocation, particularly in the area of food security. He also highlighted Sikh principles of equality, seva (selfless service), and universal brotherhood—which resonate with the council’s mission.

Singh emphasized the importance of interfaith dialogue in promoting mutual understanding and strengthening collective efforts to serve humanity. He commended the governor’s initiative to bring together diverse faith communities for meaningful discussions and collaboration.

Lt. Governor Miller expressed her support for the council’s work, stating on social media, “Bringing together members of all faiths to address community challenges is essential. Our Interfaith Council reflects our belief that genuine progress occurs through collaboration and partnership. Together, we can foster positive change!”

The Governor’s Interfaith Council remains a vital platform for encouraging cooperation and unity among Maryland’s religious communities.
