Silicon Valley diaspora discuss AI advancements at ASEI summit

The American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin (ASEI) hosted an AI summit marking the 10th anniversary of its Silicon Valley chapter, earlier this month. 

The event, co-hosted by the University of California, Santa Cruz brought together industry leaders, researchers and policymakers to discuss advancements in AI, GenAI and Agentic AI, as well as responsible AI practices.

India’s Consul General in San Francisco, Srikar Reddy, addressed the gathering, emphasizing India's AI-driven economic initiatives. He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on AI’s role in governance and development, underscoring the Indo-U.S. collaboration in technology. “Let's hope MAGA + MIGA make MEGA partnership in the Indo-US relationship,” he remarked.

U.S. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) delivered a video message, highlighting AI’s potential in public policy, healthcare and energy. He encouraged recommendations from the Silicon Valley AI community on responsible AI implementation.

The summit featured a fireside chat between ASEI Silicon Valley president Piyush Malik and Glean CEO Arvind Jain, discussing AI’s evolution and its impact on the workforce. Jain asserted that AI would enhance productivity rather than replace jobs.

Industry experts, including TheAgentic chief business officer Hans Sandhu, investor Muddu Sudhakar and Automation Anywhere CEO Mihir Shukla, explored AI-driven business models, investment trends and ethical AI deployment. A panel featuring executives from OpenAI, NVIDIA and Juniper Networks addressed career readiness in the AI-driven workforce.

Co-organizers Niharika Srivastav and Rakesh Guliani led the closing ceremony, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to AI innovation and professional development.
Founded in 1983, ASEI fosters networking, mentoring and technology exchange among Indian professionals in the U.S. and abroad.
