The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania’s (HUP)-Cedar Avenue public health campus has appointed Sindhu Srinivas as its new executive director.

Srinivas, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Perelman School of Medicine, assumes leadership at the campus, focusing on delivering patient-centered care tailored to the community’s needs, the university said in a statement.

“HUP Cedar Avenue and the Cedar Public health campus overall serves an incredibly important role in improving the overall health and wellness of the community,” said Srinivas. “I am honored to serve as the executive director and to advance the mission of this critical campus in partnership with PHMC, CHOP, and the community.”

A maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Srinivas is nationally recognized for co-developing the Heart Safe Motherhood program, which reduced racial disparities in postpartum care. Her work earned her the 2024 Edward S. Cooper Award from the American Heart Association.

In addition to her clinical expertise, Srinivas has a strong background in health equity and care delivery research. She is president-elect of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and has served on state and city maternal mortality review committees. Srinivas completed her medical education and advanced training at the University of Pennsylvania.

Located at 54th and Cedar, the facility was established in 2021 through a collaboration between the Philadelphia Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) and Penn Medicine, with support from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Independence Blue Cross Foundation.

West Philadelphia, home to over 200,000 residents, faces high poverty rates and significant barriers to health care access, contributing to worse health outcomes. HUP-Cedar Avenue addresses these challenges through a broad range of services, including primary care, emergency care, behavioral health, and substance use treatment, while targeting social determinants of health to advance equity.
