Singing and dancing shows launched for South Asian Americans
‘The Singing Superstar’ and ‘The Dancing Superstar’ will begin auditions in major U.S. cities starting in April

In a bid to showcase the immense talent within the South Asian community residing in the U.S., two highly anticipated shows, 'The Singing Superstar' and 'The Dancing Superstar', have made their debut after a successful launch in India. With online auditions set to kick off in April across major U.S. cities.
Former actor Pooja Batra, Jaaved Jaaferi, comedian Jamie Lever, actor-host Meiyang Chang, and playback singers Suresh Wadkar and Sadhana Sargam are confirmed to be on the judge’s panel of the show, and were all present for the launch event. The show will be shot in the U.S. The rest of the details regarding the schedule are yet to be announced.
Jaaferi was the maker and judge of Boogie Woogie, an Indian dance reality show that premiered in 1996. It was the first reality show in the world. “If you saw it, that was an organic show. For us the participant was the star. We believed the participant was giving us a chance to showcase their talent to the world. That was our attitude and it translated on screen…It is about intention…the U.S. has a large Indian diaspora presence but they do not have a chance to showcase their talent on a proper platform dedicated to just them…I am looking forward to this show…I think this is going to be a super show,” Jaaferi said at the launch.
Sargam lauded the makers of the show for devising the unique concept. “This show is going to be a platform for people from the U.S…I am sure this show will go viral on the internet and will be a massive success.”
Batra said, “After moving to the U.S. I thought I was forgotten in my home country. I am glad that the 21 years I spent in the U.S. led me to this.” She joked, “Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be a judge. I always wanted to be a judge on a reality show.”
