“Speculative and irresponsible” India slams Washington Post report on Pannun assassination

India on Apr. 30 slammed the Washington Post (WaPo) report that identified an unnamed Indian government official implicated in the thwarted plot to kill pro-Khalistan lawyer Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil.
Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, termed the report as “speculative and unnecessary” especially when an investigation is going on the matter. "The report in question makes unwarranted and unsubstantiated imputations on a serious matter,” the Ministry’s official statement said.
“There is an ongoing investigation of the High Level Committee set up by the Government of India to look into the security concerns shared by the US government on networks of organised criminals, terrorists and others,” it added.

According to the WaPo investigative report published on Apr.29, the individual listed as "CC-1" in the US indictment that was unsealed in November 2023 in relation to the Pannun case was identified as Vikram Yadav, an official from the Research and Analysis Wing (an Indian government agency).
The report also shed light on the alleged involvement of senior Indian officials in the assassination plot, including Samant Goel, the former RAW chief.
