The film Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, grossed more than $15 million (129.6 crore) on its first day of release worldwide. The blockbuster has shattered all opening day records for a Hindi film in India.
According to reports, Jawan made approximately US$9 million (₹75 crore) in India on its first day, of which US$7 million (₹65.5 crore) came from the Hindi version. In doing so, the latest film overtook SRK’s previous film Pathaan which opened at US$ 6.6 million (₹55 crore) to deliver the biggest single-day collection for a Hindi film.
The pan-India film directed by Kollywood director Atlee, featuring actors Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi and Deepika Padukone released on September 7. Actors Sanya Malhotra and Priyamini have also appeared in pivotal roles.
According to film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film debuted at number one spot in Australia and New Zealand and number 3 in Germany. It grossed US$ 2,55,680 (AUD 400,000) in Australia to become the first Indian film to top the country's box office, India Today reported. It further added that the film had a flying start in countries including North America, the UK and Canada.
