Nag Ashwin's film "Kalki 2898 AD," starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 9. However, the looming Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Lok Sabha elections, set for May 13, cast uncertainty over the film's release schedule.

According to a report by ETimes, the release of the film has been postponed to May 30. The decision to delay the release by a couple of weeks was made by the makers to ensure a smoother run in theaters.

This move is expected to benefit the film in the global market, especially since the Hollywood film "The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" is also scheduled for release on May 9. The report further stated that the makers have started informing distributors about the change in the film's release date.

Despite the ongoing speculation, the makers of the film have not yet made an official announcement regarding the postponement of the release date.

Kalki 2898 AD is a sci-fi film starring Prabhas, Deepika, Amitabh and Kamal in the lead roles. The makers released a new poster on Maha Shivaratri, announcing that Prabhas’ character will be named Bhairava in the film.

Despite being a science fiction film, "Kalki 2898 AD" surprisingly has a connection to mythology. At an event, Nag said about the film’s name, “The film starts with Mahabharat and ends in 2898 AD. It spans 6000 years in time. We tried to create worlds, imagining what they would be like while still keeping it Indian, and not make it look like Blade Runner.”

It is speculated that ahead of the big cinematic spectacle, the makers will release an animated prelude.
