Indian origin executive, Rahul Sahgal is set to assume a role as the new CEO of the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce (Swiss AmCham)  in the summer of 2024. He was unanimously elected on November 14, 2023, succeeding Martin Naville who has stepped down after 20 years.

Sahgal, a Swiss citizen of Indian-origin, brings extensive international experience in both business and government service to his new role. He holds degrees in business administration and law from the University of St. Gallen (HSG), where he also completed his PhD.

His career began in finance and strategy consulting before he moved to India in 2006 to work for Rieter, a Swiss machinery manufacturer. There, he focused on the textile machinery sector, subsequently leading the India business of Autoneum, an automotive supplier spun off from Rieter.

During his time in India, Sahgal also served as a board member and later as president of the Northern Chapter of the Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce (SICC) from 2011 to 2013. In 2013, he transitioned to Switzerland's diplomatic service, spending a year in Brussels as Attaché Diplomatique at the Swiss Mission to the EU.

From 2014 to 2017, Sahgal served as Deputy Head of the Unit in the Human Security Division at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in Bern. He was then appointed Counselor and Head of Financial and Fiscal Affairs at the Swiss Embassy in Washington, DC - a position he held for four years.
“I will do my utmost to support the members in protecting their business interests efficiently and effectively, be it in the US, Switzerland or in their international activities,” Sahgal said in a statement. “In doing so, I will be able to contribute my experience in the private sector and with government agencies.”

The Swiss AmCham is a leading advocate for Swiss and American companies, facilitating their operations in each other's markets and promoting favorable economic policies.
