Synopsys, IIT Bombay partner to develop semiconductor lab
The new lab will offer engineering students access to software solutions, aiding in their understanding of semiconductor process technology development.

Synopsys, a global leader in electronic design automation (EDA) and semiconductor IP, and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) have officially opened the Synopsys Semiconductor Lab for Virtual Fab Solutions. This lab is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering and falls under the Center for Semiconductor Technologies (SemiX). Given the semiconductor industry's current challenges in recruiting talent to meet the growing demand, IIT Bombay established SemiX to foster industry-focused research, education, entrepreneurship, and policy studies.
This new lab will offer engineering students access to software solutions, aiding in their understanding of semiconductor process technology development. Through the use of Technology Computer-Aided Design (TCAD) tools provided by the Synopsys Academic & Research Alliances (SARA) initiative, students, professors, and industry partners can gain practical experience with the latest process technologies, materials, and device architectures.
Synopsys and IIT Bombay have a well-established history of collaboration in research and development (R&D), as well as education and training in the field of semiconductors. This collaboration includes initiatives like a unique week-long, hands-on online training program covering process, device, and circuit simulation for the benefit of Indian academia.
