Renowned Tamil actor Daniel Balaji passed away from a heart attack on the night of Mar. 29 at a private hospital in Chennai. The actor, known for his portrayal of villainous roles in films, complained of chest pain and was promptly rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to the cardiac arrest.

Balaji, the cousin of the late actor Murali, gained recognition for his remarkable performance as Amudhan in director Gautham Menon and Kamal Haasan's 'Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu', which remains one of the iconic antagonist roles in Tamil cinema.

Beginning his career as a unit production manager in Kamal Haasan's project 'Marudhunayagam', Balaji ventured into television with a memorable role in Radikaa Sarathkumar's 'Chithhi' a television soap that became a household name in the early 2000s. His portrayal of Daniel in the serial earned him the screen name Daniel Balaji.

In 2022, Balaji made his acting debut in the Tamil film 'April Madhathil' and rose to fame with his role in Gautham Menon and Suriya-Jyotika's 'Kaakha Kaakha'. He also appeared as the antagonist in Vetri Maaran's 'Polladhavan'. However, it was his role as Amudhan in 'Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu' that cemented his place as a versatile actor in Tamil cinema.

Balaji's recent portrayal as Thambi in Vetrimaran's movie 'Vada Chennai' showcased a different facet of his acting prowess, deviating from his usual villainous roles. The loss of the actor will undoubtedly leave a void in the multi-part movie, requiring a different approach to navigate the absence of his character.

Some of his notable films include 'Yennai Arindhaal' starring Ajith, 'Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada' starring Simbu, 'Bairavaa' and 'Bigil' starring Vijay.
