Indian actor Joseph Vijay popularly known as ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay, forayed into politics with the formation of his party "Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam."
Taking to social media, the actor revealed that he is seeking a corruption-free, progressive, and secure government.
“I am aiming for a corruption-free, progressive, and secular government, considering the current political climate that divides people by religion, caste and one could witness corruption everywhere,” he wrote in a Tamil statement.

“After my father and mother, Tamil people are the ones who have given me everything including my name, fame, and money. And I have been waiting to give it back to them…,” he added.
Party leaders were recently in Delhi to register the party with the Election Commission of India (ECI). They have submitted the bylaws and the structure of the party to the commission, the statement noted.
However, the party is neither going to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections nor support any party for now. It will make its debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, with the aim to transform the state after being voted into power.
The 49-year-old actor is the latest from the Tamil film industry to enter politics, after big names such as Udhayanidhi Stalin and Kamal Haasan among others.
Vijay underlined that politics is not a profession or occupation, but a service to the common man. Expressing eagerness to fully engage in politics, the actor indicated quitting cinema after completing the films he has committed to.
