Telangana CM attends CEO roundtable, meets World Bank chief

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who is in the United States as part of an investment trip met with top CEOs and business leaders in New York.

The CEO roundtable was hosted by the Consulate General of India in New York. Over 20 CEOs and chairpersons from various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, IT, technology, and biotech participated. During the event, CM Reddy highlighted Telangana’s strengths as a business-ready state, emphasizing its robust infrastructure, talented workforce, and investor-friendly policies.  He also positioned the state as a key player in the "China Plus One" strategy for American companies. 

“We are now a powerhouse in software, life sciences, and pharma, with a strong base in aerospace, defense, and electronics,” Reddy stated. He noted Telangana’s critical role in the global fight against COVID-19, having produced millions of vaccines for numerous countries.

The CM also unveiled ambitious projects, including the development of a "Future City," which aims to be India's first Net Zero Carbon city and a hub for AI, medical tourism, sports, and software. “Future City will be India’s answer to the future. It’s like a second round of the gold rush,” he remarked.

IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu further detailed Telangana's industry policies and the historical development of Hyderabad as a power hub, aiming to position the city among the top 10 global cities.

In a separate meeting, CM Reddy met with World Bank president Ajay Banga to discuss potential partnerships aimed at enhancing skills development, urban rejuvenation, and healthcare in Telangana. The discussions focused on creating sustainable and impactful projects to benefit over 40 million people in the state.
 



During the hour-long meeting, the two leaders agreed to establish cross-functional teams to conceptualize viable projects. Themes of the discussions included people, planet, sustainability, health, skills, and jobs. The World Bank expressed optimism about supporting Telangana’s vision for the Musi River rejuvenation project, Skill University, Future City, and Citizen Healthcare initiatives.

This partnership with the World Bank marks Telangana’s first exploration of working with a Bretton Woods institution. World Bank executive director Parameswaran Iyer praised Telangana’s holistic and sustainable vision, emphasizing the state’s commitment to transparency and ambitious impact. CM Reddy expressed enthusiasm about the potential partnership, committing to follow through on projects with mission-mode implementation for the highest impact and transparency.
