ZEE5 Global, the streaming platform for South Asian content, has reported a surge in the popularity of Telugu entertainment, marking it as one of the top two most consumed vernacular languages on the platform.
The revelation coincides with Telugu Language Day, celebrated Aug.29 globally by viewers, further underlining the growing demand for Telugu content worldwide.
Among the standout titles, the OSCAR-winning RRR, Karthikeya 2, and Hanu-Man have emerged as the top-watched vernacular films on ZEE5 Global. RRR, in particular, has transcended regional boundaries, becoming a global sensation.
The film’s success has been instrumental in showcasing Telugu cinema to an international audience, with viewers tuning in from countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada.
The platform has seen Telugu content account for 25 percent of all vernacular language consumption over the past year. This rise in popularity is evident not only in films but also in web series, with shows like Paruvu, Bahishkarana, and Maya Bazaar - For Sale attracting substantial viewership.
Hanu-Man, the top-watched regional movie of 2024, and Paruvu, the most-watched regional web series, have been particularly significant in driving the growth of Telugu content on the platform, which reported a 10 percent increase in Telugu content viewership from the first to the second quarter of 2024.
Archana Anand, chief business officer at ZEE5 Global, remarked on this achievement, stating, “The remarkable success of Telugu titles demonstrates the power of regional stories on the world stage. We’re excited about the future and confident that Telugu and other regional content will reach new heights as we expand their global presence.”
