The Texas State Senate has officially recognized the celebration of Holi, one of the most cherished festivals in the Hindu tradition, with the passage of its first-ever Holi resolution. The resolution was introduced by Senator Sarah Eckhardt on Mar.12, two days ahead of Holi celebrations on Mar.14.

The Senate resolution honored the significance of Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, and extended warm wishes to Hindu Texans and all communities participating in the festivities. The resolution highlighted Holi’s cultural importance as a joyous springtime celebration that symbolizes harmony, renewal, and the victory of good over evil.

The resolution stated, "The origins of this jubilant festival can be traced back many millennia, and the holiday is recognized and celebrated throughout the world by people of all backgrounds who relate to the festival's themes of love, renewal, and progress."

The resolution noted that the Holi festival has deep historical roots and a growing global presence; it emphasized how Holi’s themes of love, unity, and new beginnings resonate with people from all backgrounds. It also recognizes the festival’s contribution to Texas’s rich cultural diversity.

"The celebration of Holi reflects the spirit of inclusion, cultural heritage, and shared values that strengthen our communities," the resolution reads. "The Texas Senate extends its best wishes for a joyful and meaningful celebration."

With this resolution, Texas has become the third US state—after Georgia and New York—to formally recognize Holi.

The Hindu American Foundation (HAF), which collaborated with Senator Eckhardt’s office to make the resolution possible, celebrated the milestone in an X post.

HAF posted, "Texas Senate passes its FIRST-EVER Holi resolution! @SarahEckhardt TX makes history as Texas becomes the third state after Georgia and New York to recognize Holi, celebrating unity, color, and the spirit of inclusion!"

In the X post it further stated, "HAF’s Policy Fellow and Texas Hindu American leaders worked with Sen. Eckhardt’s office to make this resolution a reality, and many were present in the gallery during the reading today! Happy Holi!!"
