Thanedar, who served as the lead Democratic sponsor, highlighted the importance of the bill in fostering small business participation in federally funded innovation.

“The DOE and SBA Research Act represents a critical step towards fostering a cooperative relationship between the DOE and SBA, aimed at enhancing our nation's research and development capabilities,” Thanedar said. He credited Rep. Nick LaLota (R-NY), the bill’s lead sponsor, for advancing the measure in a bipartisan manner.

The legislation formalizes a partnership between the DOE and SBA, requiring the two agencies to coordinate research efforts and integrate small businesses into federal innovation initiatives. It also mandates regular reporting on research outcomes and potential areas for expansion.

With the bill nowup for consideration in the Senate, Thanedar urged lawmakers to advance the measure, stating, “This legislation has the potential to improve our nation's competitive edge in technology and sustainability.” The DOE and SBA Research Act has been referred to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
