Addressing the nation as his “parivarjan” (family members) on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in the current scenario, when the world has complete trust in India, “the ball is in our court; we should not let the opportunity go.”
Highlighting India’s resilience during the pandemic, its G20 presidency, its energetic youth, growing exports, and rich heritage, Modi said, “With India’s participation in the global economy and the global supply chain and with the place that India has earned for itself, I can say with full confidence that the current scenario in India today has brought a guarantee of stability in the world.”
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the bravehearts of the freedom movement and thanked them for the gift of Independence. He also remembered Sri Aurobindo, the great revolutionary and pioneer of spiritual life and Swami Dayanand Saraswati on the occasion of their 150th and 500th birth anniversaries respectively.
On the situation of violence and unrest in the North-eastern state of Manipur, Modi said the state and central governments are working together to find solutions to the issues. “The entire nation stands with the people of Manipur. The people of Manipur have maintained peace in the past few days, and they should continue to foster that peace, as it is the path to resolution.”
Enumerating his government’s various initiatives across sectors, from the Ministry of AYUSH, which was set up to promote traditional medicine to the Vande Bharat bullet train, the Prime Minister said, “This is a government that works, a government that surpasses the set targets, this is a new India, this is an India full of self-confidence, this is an India that is working hard to make its resolutions a reality.”
In his speech, Modi lauded the contributions of the soldiers who safeguard the borders of the nation and the uniformed forces responsible for internal security. He also emphasized on women-led development in science and technology citing an example of their contributions in Chandrayaan-3, and the empowerment of the country’s middle class as well as farmers and labourers.
Maintaining that the next five years are “golden years” to realize the aim of a developed India in 2047, Modi urged the nation to once again put their faith in his government that has worked on the principle of “Reform, Perform, Transform” to bring about change.
Concluding his 90-minute speech with a promise to the 1.4 billion people of the nation, the PM said, “Next time, on the 15th of August, from this very Red Fort, I will present to you the achievements of the country, your capabilities, the progress made by you, the successes achieved with even greater self-confidence.”
