Netflix announced the premiere of its upcoming Hindi-language romantic comedy ‘The Royals’ on May 9.
Set in the fictional city of Morpur, The Royals follows the story of a broke prince and a driven CEO who find themselves locked in a battle of egos and emotions. Bhumi Pednekar stars as Sophia Shekhar, a sharp and ambitious tech entrepreneur, while Ishaan Khatter plays Aviraaj Singh, a flamboyant royal with a penchant for parties and rebellion.

Backed by a strong ensemble cast including Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday and others, the show is positioned as a high-gloss, high-drama romantic escapade.
“With The Royals, we’ve mounted a romance that whips together the old-world charm of palaces and Indian royalty with glass-walled boardrooms and modern reality—where love is anything but easy,” said creators Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy in a statement. “This is our first baby with Netflix and we’re thrilled to partner with them and take The Royals beyond borders—to a global audience.”
Tanya Bami, series head, Netflix India, said the show aims to capture the classic charm of romantic comedies while infusing it with uniquely Indian sensibilities. “Rom-coms have a timeless charm, they make us laugh, believe in love and embrace the beautiful chaos that comes with it. While Bridgerton and Emily in Paris showed the world how compelling romantic sagas can be, The Royals brings that sizzle and swoon to a world that’s unapologetically Indian,” she said.
The series marks the streaming platform’s first collaboration with Pritish Nandy Communications and promises a fresh spin on the age-old tale of opposites attracting—this time in a setting where royal legacy meets corporate ambition.
