Here we speak with Tiger Shroff and get all the insider's news about the Akshay Kumar - Tiger starrer ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ and more.
Tiger Shroff has made a place for himself in this industry with his action and dancing, there is no contemporary of his who can match his caliber. While his film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is making all I the right noise, there are rumours about a Hindi remake of Rambo too.
If that's not enough, there is Rohit Shetty who is adding him into his Singham franchise. Clearly, no one can hold a candle to Jackie's little boy. A man of few words, we spoke to him about his upcoming films and cinema in general.
How was it working with Akshay Kumar for the first time?
I have idolized Akshay Kumar since childhood and I took up action after watching him. I think everyone in the industry might be aspiring to do what he is doing, and by some miracle, age backwards like he is.
The humor that we have had has been amazing. I was glad this film gave me a chance to get to know The Akshay Kumar better both on sets and off set and I got to learn a lot of things. It was fun working with him. There is not one genre that he hasn't tackled be it action, comedy, drama.... working with him has been a learning experience for me.
You spoke about having to be alert when working with Akshay but generally too, what is your prep for stunts or any difficult scenes?
I do not like to overthink my stunts or action scenes, as a protocol on sets we rehearse a lot, but I don't overthink or analyze anything before we shoot. The toughest scenes, I do it on autopilot its only when it is over and we see how it got recorded do I wonder how did I do that? Post shot I do all my thinking and discussing.
Akshay is known to be an early riser. What about you, do you also follow an early shooting schedule?
I have always been an early riser as I wake up and start practicing my martial arts. I was proud of the fact that I am the only person who begins his day early but when we started shooting for the film, I realized that Akshay Sir wakes up much before me. It was so inspiring, best bit being we started working out together and it was enriching.
Do you find any similarities between the two of you?
A lot, as I said earlier he goes to bed early and is an early riser. He does not like to party neither do I. I am not a party animal. I realized that when we went for parties together, we both were at loss for words and we both realized we were not meant to be there.
We used to often make excuses and leave the party. In many ways we are similar. We are both fitness freaks. But he comes with a lot of experience, there is much to learn from him. But if I was to pick one thing. I would say it is his comic timing that I would love to acquire. He has an uncanny sense of humor and is very spontaneous.
Your name has become synonymous to action and dancing, from the young to the old are feeling inspired looking at you. But who inspired you?
For me action and dancing is a lifestyle and I am passionate about both. As a kid I have always been Inspired by Akshay Kumar and my dad, as far as action is concerned and when it comes to dancing I am a huge fan of Micheal Jackson and Hrithik Roshan.
Having said that, it is a huge compliment for me when I hear at such a young age, I am inspiring people. All I can do in return is try to raise the bar for myself when I take up a new movie and give my fans a little more.
OTT has taken over in a big way and a lot of actors are looking forward to working on this platform. Will we ever see you taking up a Web Series?
The OTT platform is a great space and there are a lot of talented actors who are doing great work. I am passionate about the big screen and I love hero centric films and I am fascinated by larger-than-life characters so I don't see myself in a smaller space. Maybe I will experiment in my later stages but right now I am happy with what I am doing.
Now that you have attained so much success and you have a slew of high budget films, do you feel responsible as an actor?
As an individual, we all are responsible in our own ways. It is when others think that you are truly being responsible and taking on more duties etc, do you know that you are actually being a responsible Individual. I allow myself to feel the pressure of it all, only when it is work related.
The pressure increases with every film but I see it as a blessing because it makes me more responsible. I love to take care of my family and give them something more each time. So perhaps I put a little pressure on myself too, when I take up a new roles or do an action scene because I want to ensure I have taken it a notch higher than my previous works.
I don't want to lose what I have earned so far. It is not easy to earn the trust of your fans. I am humbled that they have accepted me and given so much love. The pressure to keep it going and not lose it is always there. I am a star son and being a star son is not easy. The pressure of comparison is always there. But I believe out here my job is to turn into a diamond through all this pressures. And I think I will make them all proud.
Listening to you, I wonder if you are really living it up and enjoying your youth-like people your age would do. Tell us, what is the one thing that you miss from your life before Bollywood?
I guess everything comes at a price and I am so grateful for all that happened. I miss playing basketball at times. I don't get enough time. I do try and make it happen with industry friends. Akshay Sir also loves playing games and we enjoyed a game or two together during the film.
I also miss going out for family lunches. Earlier we celebrated a lot and I would watch how people would come and ask my father for autographs or click pictures. I watched him with adulation but never realized what high it gave.
You have great films coming up next year, there's Rohit Shetty's Singham series and remake of Hollywood movie Rambo.
Yes, I am excited about these films as there will be some great action. I can't reveal much but I have been a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone right from childhood and to emulate him. On screen is not going to be easy. It's too early to talk about it.
All I can say right now is that it's going to be very different from what I have done before. I will he training myself in various kinds of martial arts. I am very excited.
