Thousands revel at Sewa Atlanta's annual Holi Festival

The Consul General of India in Atlanta commended Sewa for hosting the event, which is regarded as the largest Holi celebration in the U.S.

The Atlanta chapter of humanitarian nonprofit Sewa International hosted its 18th annual Holi Festival at the Cumming Fairgrounds, drawing thousands in a celebration of culture, community, and service. 

The event, touted as the largest Holi celebration in the U.S, featured music, dance performances, and traditional festivities, reinforcing Holi’s significance beyond a religious observance to a broader expression of unity and joy.

Congressman Rich McCormick, who represents Georgia's 7th Congressional District, joined the celebrations and danced to Holi songs at the event. Lauding Sewa International’s commitment to humanitarian work, he said, “Sewa volunteers are the embodiment of the best human nature,” he said, acknowledging the organization’s role in fostering service and togetherness.

The Consul General of India in Atlanta, Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan, commended Sewa for hosting what he described as the largest Holi celebration in the U.S. and highlighted the organization’s contributions to disaster relief, education, and healthcare.

Deputy Consul General Sreejan Shandilya emphasized the festival’s role in promoting diversity and cultural understanding within the community. Madhav Durbha, president of Sewa’s Atlanta chapter, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, “This event is a testament to the joyous spirit of Holi and the positive impact Sewa has on Atlanta and beyond.”

Sewa encouraged sustainability at the festival by urging attendees to bring reusable water bottles. The event received support from the Forsyth County Commissioner’s Office, Cumming Fairgrounds staff, and Cumming Police Department. Sponsors included Level Solutions Group, PNC Bank, Handa FinTax Group, Gupta Real Estate, and several other organizations.
