Three Indian-origin women made Parliamentary Secretaries in British Columbia

They are Jessie Sunner, Harwinder Sandhu and Sunita Dhir.

After inducting four members of the Indian Diaspora in his new Council of Ministers, the British Columbia Premier David Eby has named three women of Indian descent as Parliamentary Secretaries.

To facilitate working of the 27-member Council of Ministers, including 23 Cabinet Ministers, David Eby has named 14 Parliamentary Secretaries. Members of the ruling party owing their origin to India have got representation in the Secretaries list.

They are Jessie Sunner, Harwinder Sandhu and Sunita Dhir.

First time MLA Jessie Sunner, a trade unionist and human rights lawyer, has been given the portfolio of Anti-Racism Initiatives.

Befitting her roots and her long association with the farm sector, Harwinder Sandhu, has been made Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture.

Keeping in view her role as a social activist, who has been assisting newcomers to Canada, Sunita Dhir has been given the portfolio of international credentials. 

Immigrants to Canada face a plethora of problems in getting their academic degrees received in the countries of their origin recognised in Canada. Sunita Dhir would head the department to facilitate Canadian equivalence to international credentials.

Another woman of Asian descent, Amna Shah, who moved from Malaysia to Canada, has been named Parliamentary Secretary for Mental Health and addictions.
