Three women from Gujarat lost their lives in a devastating car accident in the United States on Apr.26.
The victims identified as Rekha Patel, Sangita Patel, and Manisha Patel, all residents of Gujarat's Anand district, were killed when their SUV veered off the road and plunged over a bridge in Greenville County, South Carolina.
According to the Greenville County Coroner's Office, the SUV was traveling northbound on the highway when it suddenly crossed all lanes, breached an embankment, and catapulted at least 20 feet into the air before crashing into trees on the opposite side of the bridge.
The SUV was discovered wedged against a tree, shattered into multiple pieces, indicating the force of the collision with the surroundings. Chief Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis in an interview with news channel WSPA shared that the vehicle was traveling well above the posted speed limit. He confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Ellis described the unprecedented nature of the accident, noting, "Very seldom do you see a vehicle that leaves the roadway at such a high rate of speed that it jumps 4-6 lanes of traffic and lands in the trees approximately 20 feet."
Emergency response teams, including the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Gannt Fire and Rescue, and several Greenville County EMS units, swiftly arrived at the scene.
The sole survivor of the tragic accident was reportedly injured and hospitalized. Family members were alerted about the crash by the vehicle's detection system, prompting them to notify local authorities in South Carolina.
