TiECon 2024, the annual convention hosted by The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE), a global non-profit dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship kicked off on May 1, 2024 with a startup boot camp led by Naeem Zafar, professor of practice at Northeastern University.
In its ninth year, the camp included one-on-one mentorship. “More than 80 people from 40 startups made pitches to mentors,” said Shubham Shinde, a volunteer. Out of them four were shortlisted to pitch for funding to panel of venture capitalists
Raghavendra Ravichandran, CFO Garuda Aerospace, India's leading drone technology company, was among the participants vying for the mentorship. Garuda has been profitable for the last three years and have recently raised a round of $14 million.
“Under the Mentor connect program, during TiEcon, entrepreneurs can book a 60 minute time slot to connect with a mentor. We will meet them in a small setting (typically 8-10 mentees) and help them hone their pitch and guide them,” said Bharat Gupte, one of the mentors.
Mentor Connect is TiEcon’s flagship program where a structured environment for mentorship is provided to TiEcon attendees. Mentors are highly accomplished business professionals, Silicon Valley veterans and domain experts and serial entrepreneurs with a proven track record.
“Mentor connect is targeted to provide services to an entrepreneur looking to validate their idea, a novice entrepreneur looking for guidance or a startup founder looking for advice to pivot his/her startup,” said Pranali Ubale, a member of the TieCon volunteer team.
