TIME magazine has announced Shyla Raghav, an Indian American climate change specialist and advocate for change as its chief climate officer who will be based in New York.
TIME president of Sustainability Simon Mulcahy in a note to the colleagues said, "Shyla will focus on building on our momentum and expanding our climate programs and community, as well as further evolving TIME’s own climate goals and journey.”
“This promotion is not just a recognition of Shyla’s great work to date, it’s as much a proof point of TIME’s dedication to climate action. TIME is committed to the critical role of the media to inspire and enable climate action. To date, we have launched the TIME CO2 Earth Awards, our amazing Advisory Council and our Climate Futures Program,” Mulcahy wrote.
Shyla has devoted her entire professional life to pursuing climate action and finding answers. She has 15 years of expertise in coalition building, international climate finance, and environmental protection.
Shyla has played a key role in the design and launch of a ground-breaking product during her tenure at TIME as chief portfolio and partnership officer of TIME CO2, the TIME CO2 Planet Portfolio, which combined climate, nature, and community projects into a single portfolio to help direct funding to high-quality programmes as an alternative to offsetting.
She held the position of vice president for Climate Change at Conservation International before joining TIME, where she was in charge of the company's climate change strategy and coalitions for climate action.
"I know her expertise in this space will be critical to reaching our shared goal of building an impactful and thriving climate program at TIME and helping ensure we hit our goals on TIME’s climate journey," Mulcahy highlighted.
Shyla was featured in In Style Magazine’s “Badass Women.” She also gave a well-liked TEDx lecture on rethinking sacrifice and climate warming.
Born in India and raised in Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, where she experienced the effects of climate change, Shyla graduated from Yale University with a master's in environmental management.
