Tri-state community bids farewell to NY Deputy Consul General Jeph

Jeph described his service, particularly in engaging with the largest Indian American community, as a privilege.

The Indian American community in the tri-state area hosted a grand farewell for Varun Jeph, Deputy Consul General of India in New York, as he concluded his diplomatic tenure on March 20.

Held at the Moghul Ballroom in Edison, New Jersey, the event brought together over 200 community members who praised Jeph’s contributions in strengthening India’s engagement with its diaspora.

The evening commenced with a broadcast of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interview with Lex Fridman. The formal farewell ceremony highlighted key milestones of Jeph’s tenure, particularly his handling of complex situations and his role in fostering strong ties between India and its diaspora.

Ankur Vaidya, chairman of the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), praised Jeph’s deep connection with the community. “He is our man who knows the community like the back of his hands. His experience in navigating complex situations has been invaluable,” said Vaidya. 

Echoing Vaidya’s thoughts, FIA president Saurin Parikh commended Jeph’s ability to unify various Indian organizations, emphasizing his meticulous management style.

Expressing gratitude to FIA and other organizations, Jeph acknowledged their role in making his diplomatic work more effective. He shared fond memories of events like the India Day Parade and the Unity March organized by Kenny Desai. 

In his farewell speech, Jeph recalled his arrival in New York amid Cyclone Ida, reflecting on the challenges and experiences that shaped his tenure. He described his service as a privilege, particularly engaging with the largest Indian American diaspora community. He highlighted moments of unity during gatherings for Prime Minister Modi’s "Mann Ki Baat" and cultural events such as "Dance Pe Chance."

Jeph urged the community to support the nearly 300,000 Indian students in the U.S., reaffirming the consulate’s commitment to assisting every Indian. He assured continued availability to the diaspora in Delhi and thanked all organizations and his family for their unwavering support.

Representatives from organizations including TAK Group, Bansal Foundation, TV9, Parikh Worldwide Media, BJANA, Siddhivinayak Temple, and ROAR were in attendance.
