Trudeau expects seriousness in Nijjar matter from India after US case
“The Indian government needs to work with us to ensure that we’re getting to the bottom of this,” Trudeau told reporters on November 29, after the US indictment became public knowledge.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in his recent remarks said India needs to cooperate with Canada in their investigation in the assassination of their citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
His comments came in light of the indictment against an Indian national who was held in the foiled assassination plot of Khalistani-extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. The indictment also mentioned that an Indian government official had ordered the killing and directed it.
“The news coming out of the United States further underscores what we’ve been talking about from the very beginning, which is that India needs to take this seriously. The Indian government needs to work with us to ensure that we’re getting to the bottom of this,” Trudeau told the media on November 29.
India and Canada remain tied in a diplomatic row since September, when Trudeau first made the allegation that India was involved in Nijjar’s June 18 assassination in Surrey.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian High Commissioner in Ottawa have reiterated on several occasions that they have yet to see relevant information and evidence from Canada, which is the reason why they have not been able to provide the cooperation in the investigation. On the other hand, India is cooperating with the U.S. officials in the foiled assassination plot.
