In what can only be described as a political shellacking (a term coined by Obama after his election route in 2010), Donald J. Trump’s shock-n-awe landslide victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election is not just a testament to his enduring appeal among American voters but also heralds a new chapter in international relations, particularly with Bharat (India). This victory sets the stage for a transformative era, one where the United States will have a new golden age, reminiscent of the Gupta Empire’s zenith of Indian civilization with innumerable inventions in science and math including the inventions of zero and decimal point.
Starting 2025, US economy will grow at 4 to 5% annually, our country will be energy independent and manufacturing will be brought back from China to the United States. This will be the start of decades of peace and prosperity. Incomes and assets will grow for all Americans.
There are 6.2 million Hindus (3.2 million voters) in the US. American pollsters do not yet have Hindu Americans in their poll database but after 2024, they will. This is the largest block of independent voters in the US.
Hinduism is not a religion, it is a way of life. It is a very tolerant cul- ture. As such most immigrants from India had hesitated to be called Hindus until 2015 when a group of us got together and launched Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC) in 2015 along the lines of Republican Jewish Coalition. Since then the original hesitation of being called Hindus is gone and instead tens of new organizations with Hindu names have sprung up in the US and many other countries.
Trump recognized Hindu community’s significance early on. His engagement began visibly with a massive rally in New Jersey before his 2016 election, where he promised to be a champion for Hindu causes, aligning with the RHC’s mission and emphatically proclaiming, “I love Hindus.” Then speaking in Hindi, and taking from Indian Prime Minister Modi’s playbook, Trump declared “Abki baar Trump Sarkar” which went viral with 1.2 billion views. The impact of this connection was substantial in the 2016 election where Trump secured an impressive 65% of the Hindu American vote (as compared to 16% in 2008 and 2012), a testament to the RHC’s groundwork and Trump’s genuine outreach.
Post-2016, Trump’s presidency saw a marked strengthening of U.S.-India relations in all spheres, US selling advanced weapon systems to India, selling nuclear materials and LNG to India and cutting off foreign aid to Pakistan all together.
By 2022, RHC had chapters in most all states in the US. Recognizing the importance of the Hindu support, President Trump recorded a new Hindi phrase: “Bharat and America Sabse Acche Dost” (India and America are best friends). He and I jointly appeared on ethnic TV networks. In October of 2022, President Trump invited RHC to celebrate Diwali at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. 182 of RHC executive committee members from all across the US, joined the celebrations in which President Trump declared that: “most probably, I would not have been elected as President in 2016 had it not been through the efforts of the Kumar family and Republican Hindu Coalition.”He promised important roles for Hindu Americans in his 2025 administration if he decided to run for elections in 2024 and won. He also endorsed the idea of building a Hindu Genocide Museum in Washington, DC that went viral across the world.
President Trump’s home in Mar-a- Lago decorated as Hindu Palace /Trump on Oct. 31st, tweeted condemning “barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities in Bangladesh,” pledging, “It would have never happened on my watch.” It was a bold statement of his foreign policy outlook, emphasizing religious freedom, aligning with the sentiments of all Hindus. Fast forward to the 2024 campaign, the RHC once again played a pivotal role. With a $5 million ad campaign in just the last five days of campaign ($1.2 million in TV educational ads and over $4 million in earned media across ethnic networks) and a robust ground game in swing states, they ensured that Trump’s message reached the Hindu diaspora effectively. The two 60-second educational ads were played nonstop 900 times a day on 30 different ethnic Indian channels. I myself appeared on 22 major TV interviews with practically all top Indian anchors.
Results of this campaign surprised even me. It is estimated that over 85% of Hindus voted for Trump over Kamala despite the fact Kamala is half Hindu. New Jersey, even though not in play in this cycle is a prime example. There are over 400,000 Hindu voters in NJ. Comparing 2020 to 2024, when there was a differential of 11%, that is almost 400K votes, it appears all Hindus switched from Biden to Trump. You will be hard-pressed to find any Hindu in the town of Edison, NJ who did not vote for Trump. But more importantly, the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin switched over 200,000 Hindu votes from D to R. Trump won these states by 240,000 votes.
Trump’s presidency offers a rare window where policy, personal relationships, and the American electorate’s choice might just align perfectly with India’s aspirations. This is the moment for not just America but for India to shine, to redefine their roles in a world that looks to them for leadership, stability, and inspiration.
