Former Republican President Donald Trump is leading in popularity over current Democratic President Joe Biden, a new poll by CNN found.
The CNN poll conducted by Social Science Research Solutions (SSRS), revealed that 77-year-old Trump is ahead of the 81-year-old Biden in both overall approval and support among registered voters.
According to the poll results, Trump maintains a steady 49 percent support among registered voters in a head-to-head matchup against Biden, while Biden's support stands at 43 percent, similar to the previous poll conducted in January.
Significantly, a majority of Americans, 55 percent perceive Trump's presidency as a success, compared to 44 percent who view it as a failure. This contrasts with Biden's term, where 61 percent see it as a failure, with only 39 percent considering it successful.
The poll also highlights partisan differences in perception, with a majority of Republicans (92 percent) viewing Trump's presidency positively, while only 73 percent of Democrats see Biden's as successful. Among independents, 51 percent consider Trump's presidency a success, compared to 37 percent for Biden.
Economic concerns emerged as a major factor for voters, with 65 percent considering the economy extremely important in their choice of president. Trump gains significant support among these voters, with 62 percent favoring him over Biden. Additionally, a majority of Americans (70 percent) perceive economic conditions in the US as poor.
Protecting democracy was highlighted as a significant concern for 58 percent of voters, closely followed by immigration, crime, and gun policy, each deemed crucial by nearly half of voters. Healthcare, abortion, and nominations to the US Supreme Court also rank high in importance for voters.
Notable differences in priorities exist between Democratic and Republican voters, with Democrats prioritizing protecting democracy, abortion, and healthcare, while Republicans focus more on the economy, immigration, and crime.
Overall, the poll reflects a current trend where Trump leads Biden in popularity and support among voters, with economic concerns and issues related to democracy, immigration, and crime being significant factors in voters' decision-making process for the upcoming presidential election in November 2024.
