In an interview, Trump praised Vice President Kamala Harris, saying that she would make a better president than Joe Biden. Speaking with host Hugh Hewitt on ‘The Hugh Hewitt Show’ Trump implied Harris is as popular as Biden, among people who would vote for the latter.
When pressed by the conservative radio host on whether people voting for Biden are “really voting for Kamala Harris”, Trump said “I think so.” He later clarified he is not sure if Biden would even make it “to the starting gate.”
“It seems like he’s locked into her for a lot of reasons. He has to choose her. I understand. It would seem like the Democrats, if he doesn’t run, have to run her,” Trump said on the show. “That’s what all of the professionals like you are saying. I’m not sure that that’s correct, but that’s what they’re saying,” he added. “I think she’d be better than him, actually. I actually think that,” Trump said, as reported by Mediaite.
Notably, in 2020, after Harris’s announcement as VP pick, Trump criticized her for past comments she made about Biden. Trump claimed Harris “did very, very poorly in the primaries,” and claimed she “called Joe Biden a racist and asked for an apology she never received.” He further added, “Phony Kamala will abandon her own morals.”
In December 2019, Harris, then-Senator of California, who was running in the Democratic presidential race, dropped out, citing a lack of “financial resources” needed to continue in the race. On August 12, 2020, Trump’s campaign had posted a video attacking both Biden and Harris. In the video, the narrator said, “Voters rejected Harris. They smartly spotted a phony. But not Joe Biden. He is not that smart…He is handing over the reins to Kamala while they jointly embrace the radical left. Slow Joe and phony Kamala, perfect together, wrong for America.”
