"Trump supports legal immigration," says Michigan Republican Sunny Reddy
Reddy called on the Indian American community to dispel fears about Trump’s policies, arguing that legal immigrants remain protected.

Michigan Republican Sunny Reddy has reiterated his strong support for former President Donald Trump's stance on legal immigration, aligning himself with Trump’s policies as the 2024 election season heats up.
Reddy, a Republican candidate, who is running for an at-large seat on the Wayne State University Board of Governors in the general election on Nov 5, 2024, has consistently championed the importance of legal immigration, a topic that has taken center stage in U.S. political discourse, especially within key immigrant communities across Michigan.
In an interview with New India Abroad, Reddy emphasized that Trump has consistently backed legal immigration while addressing concerns about his stance on broader immigration policies. "Trump is always for legal immigration. He never opposed it. There’s a lot of fear mongering, but during his four years in office, nothing happened to legal immigrants," Reddy stated. "America is a democracy, and no one will be sent out simply for being an immigrant."
He called on the Indian American community to dispel fears about Trump’s policies, arguing that legal immigrants remain protected. Reddy further touched on concerns regarding illegal immigration, pointing to its impact on the economy and job market.
"Illegal immigrants are taking over jobs, and that hurts not just native-born Americans, but communities of immigrants too," he said, noting that the issue resonates strongly with many African-American and Muslim voters in Michigan.
"There is growing frustration among Black and Muslim voters over the current administration's handling of immigration and the economy. More are now seeing Trump’s policies as favorable," he added.
He also weighed in on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, particularly the Israel-Palestine conflict. "While America stands with Israel, there’s a shared concern for the innocent lives being lost in the region. We must pursue peace while ensuring national security."
Notably, Reddy cited a visible shift in voter allegiances, especially within minority groups. "We’re seeing a notable trend where many Black and Muslim voters, traditionally Democratic, are now leaning towards Trump, largely due to dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party’s response to issues like illegal immigration and economic policies," Reddy explained.
