The ongoing talks between the United States and India on tariffs is “going to work out very well” President Donald Trump said March 28 and said in Narendra Modi, India has a “great” Prime Minister.

“I think it's going to work out very well between India and our country,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House when asked about the ongoing talks between India and the US on trade and tariffs.

“Prime Minister Modi was here just recently, and we we've always been very good friends. India is one of the highest tariff nations in the world. … It’s brutal. They're very smart. He is a very smart man and a great friend of mine, actually. We had very good talks,” Trump said.

“I want to say, you have a great Prime Minister,” said the president.

The Trump Administration has announced that it will implement reciprocal tariffs beginning April 2. Trump has called it a “Liberation Day” for the US. He has argued that many countries, including its friends and allies, have taken advantage of the United States.

“We have Liberation Day as you know on April 2nd because but many countries have taken advantage of us, the likes of which nobody even thought was possible for many, many decades for decades. And hat has to stop,” he said in response to a question.

“I think most countries are agreeing with me. They actually many of them have actually apologized, they said we have taken advantage,” he said and blamed his predecessors for this.
