In the last year, the University at Buffalo (UB) has strengthened its connections with India's higher education system, laying the groundwork for collaborative research and educational initiatives to tackle the world's most critical technological challenges.

These partnerships not only solidify UB's strong relationship with the world's most populous nation but also aid the Association of American Universities (AAU), of which UB is a member, in its efforts to foster greater higher education collaborations between the United States and India.

A joint statement released on September 8 by the White House and India underscored these endeavours. President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the increasing number of collaborative education partnerships involving multiple institutions. They specifically acknowledged the establishment of four joint centres of excellence through the collaboration between UB and prominent Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

President Satish K. Tripathi who was appointed co-chair of a fresh task force within the AAU highlights, “What you're witnessing is the extension of collaborations that have been in place between UB and India's higher education system for an extended period which is dedicated to strengthening connections between the US and India.”

This task force, established in conjunction with the Biden administration's U.S.-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology, published an interim report in June. The final recommendations from the task force are expected to be released later this year.

“Both the U.S. government and AAU have stressed the importance of deep collaboration with India, and here at UB we are incredibly excited to further these strategic partnerships and to advance research in artificial intelligence, biotechnology and many other critical fields,” said Tripathi.
