UK launches India Young Professionals Scheme
The UK government announced that successful applicants will be granted a visa to reside and work in the UK for up to 24 months

The UK government has launched the India Young Professionals Scheme, offering 3,000 visas to Indian citizens through a ballot system.
Taking to X, the British High Commission in India shared details about the first ballot for the scheme. "The first ballot of the #IndiaYoungProfessionalsScheme opens in less than 24 hours! If you’re an Indian graduate who wants to live, work, or study in the United Kingdom for up to 2 years, you can enter the ballot for a chance to apply for a visa," it said.

"There are 3,000 places available for the India Young Professionals Scheme visa in 2024. Most places will be made available in the February ballot. The remaining places will be made available in the July ballot," the UK Government website noted.
As per the UK Government's guidelines, applicants must ensure they meet the financial, educational and other prerequisites to qualify for the visa.
Successful entries will be randomly selected from the ballot and applicants will receive the results via email within 3 weeks of the ballot closing. Those selected will have 90 days from the date of the email to apply for the visa online. Applicants must pay the visa application fee, including the immigration health surcharge, and provide biometrics. The visa costs £298 (US$ 375).
The UK government has announced that successful applicants will be granted a visa to reside and work in the UK for up to 24 months. They will have the flexibility to enter the UK at any point during the validity of their visa and can depart and return as needed throughout their stay.
During their stay in the UK under this visa, Indians will be allowed to pursue studies, though certain courses may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme certificate. Successful applicants have the freedom to work in most occupations and even be self-employed, including establishing a company, provided that the premises are leased, equipment does not exceed a value of £5,000, and employees are not hired.
However, there are limitations to this visa. People cannot extend their stay beyond the stipulated period, apply for most benefits or public funds, or include family members in their application; they must apply separately if they wish to join. Additionally, participants are not permitted to work as a professional sportsperson, such as a coach, under this visa category.
