UN celebrates B. R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary in NY

The United Nations headquarters in New York hosted a celebration in honor of the 133rd birth anniversary of India's most esteemed freedom fighters, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.
The two-day event organized by the Foundation For Human Horizon—an NGO with close ties to the United Nations—marked the first time in UN history that two full days were dedicated to Dr. Ambedkar. Leaders and representatives from 195 countries attended the event to pay their tributes to the leader.
The delegates highlighted the global respect and recognition for Dr. Ambedkar's contributions. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the event's organizer, Deelip Mhaske, highlighting the event's significance.

Ambedkar is the leader whose birth anniversary is celebrated by world leaders at the United Nations. It’s a matter of pride for the 5 million Indian Americans in the USA and 1.4 billion Indians. Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of making India a superpower is clearly reflected in the interest shown by world leaders in this event,” Mhaske, president of the Foundation for Human Horizon, said on the occasion.
Two thematic discussions namely, "Youth-Led Solutions for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" and "Harmony High: Empowering Peaks, Nurturing Futures - Indigenous Youth Leading the Charge for Resilient Mountain Agriculture” were held during the event. The papers resulting from these discussions will be presented at the United Nations General Assembly in September.

Speakers including Phoolman Chaudhary, Hanieh Moghani, Luisa Castaneda, and Alexi Tsykarev among others, discussed various strategies for indigenous empowerment and sustainable development that were aligned with Dr. Ambedkar’s vision, to empower youth and indigenous populations.
The event also showcased the efforts of nations worldwide to incorporate Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals into addressing contemporary global challenges.
