The United States Hindu Alliance (USHA) has strongly condemned the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, former President of the United States.
Trump had just begun his speech at a Pennsylvania rally when the shots rang out, injuring him and two other attendees and killing one. US Secret Service Agents promptly evacuated Trump from the area and transported him to a secure location. The FBI has identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the "subject involved" in the attempted assassination.
In a statement condemning the incident, USHA also lauded the members of the US Secret Service for their swift and courageous action to protect the former President. “We pray for the speedy recovery of President Trump and others who were injured at today’s campaign rally. Violence and democracy cannot go hand in hand,” Gokul Kunnath, president of USHA said in a statement.
“The United States government has a constitutional obligation to protect both presidential candidates from potential threats of violence. Given the degree of political polarization in the country today and easy access to guns, improved security arrangements should be put in place for the safety of candidates and their supporters”, Kunnath added.
USHA is a grass roots, non-partisan, advocacy organization of Hindus in America to protect and promote the interests of Hindus worldwide. It strives to foster good relations with all sections of humanity through a variety of projects, events, and initiatives.
