The University of Vermont’s Grossman School of Business (GSB) has named Srinivas Venugopal as the inaugural Donald and Gabrielle McCree Endowed Professor of Business, recognizing his contributions to sustainable business and marketing education.
“Appointment to an endowed position is among the highest academic honors the University of Vermont can bestow on a faculty member,” the university said in a statement.
A faculty member at UVM since 2016, Venugopal was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2022. In 2024, he became the academic director of UVM’s Sustainable Innovation MBA (SI-MBA) program.
“The recognition inspires me to continue serving the Grossman School of Business and this venerable university with renewed vigor. More specifically, it inspires me to bolster my research and teaching efforts aimed at demonstrating how businesses can create wealth and widespread societal well-being. Thank you so much for this honor,” Venugopal said in the investitute ceremony which took place last week.
His research focuses on how social innovation can improve well-being in poverty-stricken communities. His work, spanning five continents, has earned him awards from the American Marketing Association and the Association of Consumer Research.
Before academia, he led a social venture delivering education to low-income communities in Tamil Nadu, India, and founded “Diya,” a nonprofit providing supplementary education in Chennai.
Venugopal holds a Ph.D. and MBA in marketing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Anna University in India.
The McCree endowed professorship was established through a gift from Don and Gabby McCree to support business education at UVM. Don McCree, a senior executive at Citizens Financial Group, has been an active leader at UVM, serving on the Board of Trustees and the UVM Foundation Board.
