University of Maryland honors Richa Mathur with Impact Award

The award ceremony will be held in February 2025, formally celebrating Mathur’s achievements and her lasting impact on the university community.

The University of Maryland (UMD) has awarded Richa Mathur, assistant director of executive and faculty affairs in the computer science department with the MVP Impact Award, which celebrates staff members who exemplify the university’s “Fearlessly Forward” spirit. 

Mathur was recognized from a pool of over 230 nominees for her contributions to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. She will receive a $1,000 monetary prize and be formally recognized during a ceremony in 2025.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award,” Mathur said. “I am grateful for the opportunities to contribute to such a vibrant and inclusive community. This recognition inspires me to continue striving for excellence and to support the university’s mission in every possible way.”

In her role, Mathur manages promotion and tenure processes, coordinates faculty searches and oversees departmental communications. Additionally, Mathur plays  a key role in organizing events that strengthen community bonds among faculty, staff and students.

“Richa Mathur’s exceptional work has profoundly impacted our community, fostering an environment where collaboration thrives. Receiving the MVP Impact Award is a well-earned recognition of her efforts, and we are truly grateful for her commitment to our department's success,” said Matthias Zwicker, department chair and Elizabeth Iribe Chair for Innovation. 

Mathur reflected on her seven-year journey at UMD, which began as a contingent I employee. “I've had the privilege of working alongside inspiring colleagues and contributing to forward-thinking initiatives. This award feels like a culmination of those efforts, and I’m excited to continue finding new ways to make a positive impact.”
