The University of Wollongong (UOW) has opened doors for prospective students eager to pursue cutting-edge programs at its GIFT City campus in Gujarat, India.

Among the offerings are the newly introduced master of financial technology and a graduate certificate in financial technology, complementing the previously announced master of computing (data analytics) and a graduate certificate in computing programs scheduled to kick off this July.

“UOW India, under the leadership of vice-chancellor and president Professor Patricia M. Davidson, is gearing up to provide students with a world-class Australian education, bridging the realms of computing and financial technology,” the university said in a statement.

The admission criteria for these programs mirror those of UOW’s Australian campuses, demanding an undergraduate degree, work experience, and an English language assessment.

It is important to note that UOW India, once operational, is poised to claim the second-highest position in the country in the QS World University Rankings 2024.

According to the statement, the university will aim to equip students with skills and knowledge essential for success in emerging FinTech and Communication Technology (ICT) professions.

Besides the UOW, a number of other foreign universities are planning to set up their campuses in Gujarat’s GIFT city.  Recently, the University of San Diego and the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, have signed a memorandum to collaborate for academic and research purposes.

According to professor Chell A. Roberts, dean of Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering, University of San Diego, the institution is in talks with the government of India to get approvals to develop a branch campus in the Gift City. Under the new agreement, both institutes will offer joint master’s programs and dual degrees at BTech and M.Tech levels.

Apart from IIT-Gandhinagar, the University of San Diego has collaborated with Surat-based Auro University to elevate global academic cooperation.
