US Comptroller General appoints Indian Americans to Medicare Advisory Committee
New PTAC members Bhansali and Ramachandran will support value-based Medicare payment improvements and physician care models.

U.S. Comptroller General Gene L. Dodaro announced the appointment of Indian-American healthcare professionals Henish Bhansali and Krishna Ramachandran to the Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC), an independent advisory body created to improve Medicare payment models.
Both new members bring deep expertise in value-based care and will serve terms expiring in 2027, Dodaro stated.
Bhansali, the newly appointed chief medical officer for Medical Home Network, is also a board member of the National Association of Accountable Care Organizations (NAACOS) and an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. Ccertified in internal and obesity medicine, he previously held senior positions at Duly Health and Care and Oak Street Health. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine.
Krishna Ramachandran, senior vice president of Health Transformation and Provider Adoption at Blue Shield of California, also joins PTAC with a strong background in healthcare quality and affordability initiatives. He previously held executive roles at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and Duly Health and Care and has a technical background from Epic Systems. He earned an MBA from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dodaro also reappointed current PTAC members Dr. Lawrence R. Kosinski and Dr. Soujanya R. Pulluru, extending their terms to 2027.
“PTAC provides valuable information to the Department of Health and Human Services aimed at maximizing the value of the $1 trillion in annual Medicare spending," Dodaro said, underscoring the importance of the committee’s role in advising on physician payment models.
PTAC, established under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, works to enhance the way Medicare compensates physicians, specifically through value-based care initiatives. The committee’s recommendations help shape the payment models administered by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
