US Congressional delegation attends Red Fort celebrations

Khanna and Ross also paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat

The bipartisan Congressional delegation led by Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna and Congressman Michael Waltz, the co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, witnessed Indian Independence Day celebrations and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech at the Red Fort in New Delhi on August 15, 2023.

Eric Garcetti, the United States Ambassador to India, also accompanied the delegation that included lawmakers Deborah Ross, Kat Cammack, Shri Thanedar, and Jasmine Crockett along with Rich McCormick and Ed Case. The event marked Garcetti's first Independence day celebration in India since he took office earlier this year.

Later during the day, Khanna and Ross also paid their respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. "I was honored to visit Raj Ghat on India’s Independence Day to pay my respects to Mahatma Gandhi, one of the world’s greatest leaders. I also had the chance to lead our delegation at the Red Fort,"Khanna, whose grandfather was involved in the country's freedom movement wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
