A federal court has temporarily halted the deportation of 133 international students, including many Indians, and ordered the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to reinstate their student immigration records after a sudden termination that left them legally vulnerable.

In a sweeping temporary restraining order issued on Apr.23, US District Court Judge Jane Beckering directed DHS officials, including Defendants Kristi Noem and David Lyons, to “set aside the F-1 student record termination decisions as to Plaintiffs” and “restore each Plaintiff’s F-1 student record in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), retroactive to the date of termination,” which was Mar.31, 2025.
