The Pentagon has affirmed that United States has a strong military to military relationship with India. This statement comes ahead of an important bilateral defense meeting between the two countries.
Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh made the remarks during a press briefing on Aug. 22. On the same day, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh landed in Washington, D.C. on the invitation of his counterpart Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
The two leaders are set too hold a bilateral meeting on Aug. 23. Commenting on the new developments expected in U.S.-India military relations, Singh emphasized the importance of the Indo-Pacific region in the discussions but refrained from providing specific details ahead of the meeting.
"I'm not going to get ahead of the Secretary. I have no doubt they will be discussing the close coordination and partnership when it comes to the Indo-Pacific and, you know, our shared goals of maintaining and keeping a free and open Indo-Pacific," she stated.
On the personal rapport between the two defense leaders and the current state of military relations between the United States and India, Singh said, The military-to-military relationships between the United States and India are strong. You've seen that cooperation deepen, and not just from a DOD perspective, but from an administration perspective. Our close coordination remains strong and, the Secretary when he visited India, announced some of those deliverables.”
The visit takes place against the backdrop of increasing momentum in India-US relations and expanding defense engagements at various levels. It is expected to further enhance and expand the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
During the visit, Rajnath Singh will preside over a high-level roundtable with the US defense industry, focusing on current and future defense collaborations. He will also engage with the Indian community in the US.
